Year-Old Mixx Stirs Up Social Media Scene

Social media sharing website Mixx announced its first birthday on the Mixx company blog today.

ReadWriteWeb and VentureBeat both point out that Mixx is still small potatoes compared to the likes of older rival Digg.

But if Mixx can continue to follow in Digg’s footsteps, its path to Web superstardom will be soft underfoot.

By the way, one can’t help but notice the similarities between Mixx and Digg.

There’s the four-letter, consonant-vowel-double-consonant, play-on-a-verb names. (Makes me want to create a Sett or a Hitt or a Bopp.)

There’s the eclectic amalgam of URLs and media bits flying across the ether.

And there’s the steady growth. Mixx is stirring up about four million page views a month, while Digg sees approximately 10 times that – but Mixx has been improving its traffic steadily ever since its lauch a year aog.

I personally haven’t dipped my geeky toes into Mixx’s pool much yet. Haven’t felt the need. But I can see that a tipping point might be near (see the Google Trends chart).

Do you think Mixx will explode or fizzle in it second year? What would make Mixx give Digg a run for its money?
