Qwitter: Stalk Your Twitter Ex-Followers
By: Senior staff writer – Easton Ellsworth
VentureBeat reports on a new Twitter-related service called Qwitter.
Qwitter basically lets you see who has stopped following your updates at Twitter.com, which can be useful if you’re trying to determine why people un-follow you and how you can win them back.
Currently, Twitter alerts you by email when another user starts to follow you, but there are no alerts for unfollowing.
While working for Blog Action Day 2008, I was just beginning to wonder about this problem when Qwitter appeared.
I wish there were a tool like this for RSS feed subscriptions as well.
While, as VentureBeat points out, there may be some increase in the number of awkward, “So … why did you quit my Twitter feed?” conversations out there, I think a tool like Qwitter will also help many Twitter users improve their tweeting.
For example, you may find that a certain Twitter posting frequency tends to net you the most followers, while another frequency actually deters people from continuing to follow you.
Or you may find that the folks who unfollow you all seem to share a common characteristic or niche. Which can then help you decide what content to focus on in your Twitter use.
Think of Qwitter as silent feedback on your Twitter account. Either way, it helps you learn something you couldn’t before.
Do you find Qwitter disturbing? Does it upset the balance f your Twitter world? Or will you find yourself forced to use it?
What do you think?
