ComputerWorld has an interesting article saying that Apple Inc. may announce a new version of its ubiquitous iPhone tomorrow at the Apple iPhone 3.0 event.

Love the mockup image at left. Certainly it’s possible that what we’ll see from Apple tomorrow or in coming months will look just like that. Then again, the technology Apple has developed and licensed has such limitless potential as far as application to a variety of industries that I could see it going in a whole new direction.

Imagine if Apple really is cooking up a tablet, a handheld computer that could fit in one’s pocket (OK, large jeans pocket), purse, briefcase or backpack, just like a laptop – but even sturdier. Now imagine it has full Web access wirelessly, plus 3D gaming hardware, plus the ability to stream and view live TV or movies, plus mobile computing apps, plus music, etc. etc.

Yeah – pretty amazing to contemplate.

Would you rather have an iPhone 3.0 tablet or whatever they’ll call it, or just a little iPhone? Methinks many people would opt for the larger item because they could see things better with the expanded screen real estate.

This device, whatever it is, will shake up the startup industry again, no doubt, just as the iPhone did two years ago.

The event is scheduled for 1 pm Eastern today (Tuesday, March 17).
