Scanaroo Frees Up Your Wallet to Hold Money
by Senior Staff Writer – Jason Bean
I have probably 30+ different loyalty and membership cards in my possession. I liked it when they started making loyalty cards as keychain attachments, that helped reduce the literal pain-in-my-butt that my wallet would make when I sat down because it was so thick.
There’s a new app for your iPhone called Scanaroo that lets you reduce this wallet space hoarding ordeal even further. Scanaroo lets you take a picture of your membership cards and store all the pertinent information right there in your iPhone.
Then, when you need your card, just pull out your iPhone and scan the bar code straight off the screen. If people own this app I think they should be encouraged to yell "SCANAROO!" during the scan.
Don’t just get caught up in the idea of this being an application for just your loyalty cards. You could just about use Scanaroo to grab a picture of any little bit of information you’ve got printed on a card or written on a little piece of paper in your wallet.
Scanaroo was developed by Cerado which also has a great little application called Cerado Ventana. Ventana allows companies and organizations to quickly develop a mobile information portal for their business needs to share with existing customers or potential new customers.
The reasons for me to purchase an iPhone are increasing. Apps like this make me really wish people were developing similar options for other mobile devices. Guess I’ll keep the keyring of loyalty cards sitting in my car’s dash bin a little longer.

Jason, there’s a free app on the iPhone called CardStar that does this too (article on TUAW yesterday), and their web site says it’s coming soon to other mobile devices. Maybe one less reason to switch to the iPhone?

Try the app first before extolling its virtues. It is great in concept but doesn’t actually work. The resolution of the camera on my iPhone is not good enough… nor are the instructions very helpful.
Will look for something else… likely a waste of $0.99.
I concur with Max. The review author does not appear to have used the app.
