5 Reasons You Should Attend Twitter Meetups
By Senior Editor – Kris Smith (@croncast)
I would venture to say that the title of this post alone turned off a lot of people. Not good if I am writing for traffic but I am writing this one for you.
Those that turned away from this post need you to explain to them, in the real world, why they should go to the next one of these events.
1. There Are No Expectations
You’re not expected to do anything but meet, drink and maybe win a prize. If someone tells you to tweet about something tell them to shut up and remind them that social media is about you and your choice to share.
These are great events to not tweet from. Leave that to the newbies.
2. Have a Real Conversation – Non Tweets
You will meet not Twittering crowd that are just as interesting as those that you are connected with on Twitter. They came to the even for the spectacle of making fun of you. Not really. They come to these events to learn more about social media and meet folks that are outside their normal sphere. Get to know them too!
3. You have a lot in common with the group
Most people there are Twitterers. You’ve got that going for you. Unlike the non-Twittering posse these people perform the same sharing and witty quip writing that you do. They probably share lots of links too.
This reason is also important because you will get connected in the real world to someone you might only know online. Relish these moments, because they are truly like a box of chocolates.
4. The FAIL Whale is you, if you stay home
You are the FAIL Whale if you stay home. The failure is not getting up off your duff and finding your way to a group of people that happy you’re you. You parents certainly aren’t happy that you’re you. They wanted a kid like Bruce Jenner – wait.
5. You can write about it the next day or post your videos
Ha! I hit up a Twitter event last night and not a peep but this. How about Boonsri doing the same? Enjoy the time with like minded people interested in making connections. These events are opportunities for you to make your own luck in finding a new career path, making friends or connecting someone in your network to a new person.
