Do we really need another live video platform? Vokle would like us all to discuss it.

After debuting at DEMO in March 2009, startup live video provider Vokle is available for your live streaming pleasure.

A completely web-based application, Vokle allows anyone to produce a live, town hall-style video event with multiple video participants, twitter integration and chat room enabling producers to have full audience interaction.

It’s this town hall-style model that differentiates Vokle from Livestream, UStream, Justin.tv and other providers of live streaming.

(More, including video samples, after the jump.)

Sure, platforms like UStream enable producers to have multiple “hosts” in a single streaming session, but Vokle’s competitors are primarily focused on a broadcast television-style model.

If anything, Vokle more closely resembles the newly updated tinychat than any of the others, though the video quality of Vokle appears to be much better.

Already using Vokle are Alex Albrecht, the Creator & Co-host of The Totally Rad Show and co-host of Diggnation; Videoblogger and all-around web video expert Steve Garfield and; Sarah Austin of POP 17, among others.

I’ve tried nearly all the live video platforms mentioned above for my weekly podcast and will definitely give Vokle an opportunity, especially as we move toward a model of having more distributed guests rather than in-studio appearances.

With that in mind, I’d like to see the integration of Skype and/or other telephone-based applications for those who don’t have a webcam but want to join the conversation. This is not a shortcoming of Vokle but of the entire category. Most require workarounds to integrate audio-only participation.
