A DNA Encounter In The Bay Area
By Staff Writer – Boonsri Dickinson (@boonspoon)
This is going up late because I just got back from some parties that were thrown after the formal sessions at the J.P. Morgan Healthcare Conference. In the suit-filled room of investors and biotech CEOs, I ran into Linda Avey, co-founder of 23andMe. I interviewed her a few years ago for my DNA story. Tonight, she told me to check out the cousin feature on 23andMe. I’m curious to know what other family members I have, so I will do that soon! Have you gotten your DNA tested? Would you? It is getting cheaper, faster, and better.

Curiosity is a good reason for getting your DNA tested at first but people need an overriding hook to keep getting tested as they get older. The newer tests will show more detail as the test improve over time. The DNA testing vendors need very good databases and comparison statistics to show new and existing users more information.
