Garmin Voice Studio Lets You Record Your Own Directions for Your Navigation System

If this isn’t a great reason for me to upgrade to a Garmin navigation system, then I don’t know what is.

I don’t know about you but I’m tired of the robotic voice on my current navigation system and I really don’t want Mr. T telling me where to go. Until now, there weren’t too many alternatives.

Thanks to Garmin, I can now tell me where to go. Or my wife. Or my son. How cool is that!?

Garmin Voice Studio lets you record directions in your voice or in the voice of someone who will actually read the directions for you. Garmin claims that it will only take about 30 minutes to record the number of phrases required to get you from point to point but there are a few things to note.

First, it only works with the following models:

aera™ series

GPSMAP® 620 & 640

nüvi® 200-series

nüvi 205-series

nüvi 500-series

nüvi 700-series

nüvi 705-series

nüvi 800-series

nüvi 1200-series

nüvi 1300-series

nüvi 1400-series

nüvi 1600-series

nüvi 5000

zūmo® 660

The software, while free, is Windows-only so we Mac users will have to borrow a PC from a friend of load up BootCamp and hope that it can transfer the recordings to the device once they’re completed.

I, for one, will mashup voices from my favorite movies and splice them to read my directions. Hey – maybe I can create directions using my iSamJackson App? The possibilities are endless…
